Rio de Janeiro: Day 1

I woke up to the light shining through my windows and piercing my eyes. It was only 7am and the ship was making its way into the bay that sits beside Rio. I looked out my window to catch the most spectacular view of Sugar Load Mountain from the water.

Once the ship was cleared, we headed out to retrieve some money and flag down a cab. Somehow we managed to fit our group of 8 people into one and headed to Ipanema. In Ipanema we were dropped off at a market called the Hippie Market. The street market vendors sold nearly everything you could think of. After looking around the market and too afraid to buy anything before we went to the beach, we left the market and headed to the beach in Ipanema. We found a small kiosk that sold water, crackers, and caipirinha and headed down to lay out. Caipirinha is Brazil's national cocktail, made with cachaça (sugar cane rum), sugar, and lime.

After lying out on the beaches and taking in the ocean and the views, we headed back to the ship starving and ate dinner. The night was spent in as we failed to use enough sunscreen and came back very red and extra crispy.
