Belgium: Day 1 Antwerp!

Belgium: Day 1, September 10th, 2012 (Antwerp)

Monday was our first day in Belgium. We arrived in Antwerp at about 8am and left the ship around 9 or 10. We decided to walk around and explore what the city had to offer. During this time we found many cute shops and got lost down the intricate, totally ridiculous, set of roads they have making up the city center. At around noon we decided to head back to the ship to eat lunch instead of paying the ridiculous prices in country.

Once back on the ship we all laid down for a nap and later I worked on my drawings for my drawing class. It was a relaxing afternoon where I got a good deal accomplished and was able to take a break from the stress that comes with traveling so many places in such a short time.

Monday night we went out with Sarah, a Belgium native who we met aboard the ship. We had fun exploring cafes and drinking Belgium beer. She was such a help to have around because she speaks Dutch. While most people speak English here, it is easier for them to communicate in Dutch. We then proceeded to a small karaoke bar on one of the main strips for awhile and then headed back to the cafes. The girls (Lauren, Lauren, Brit, Jenna, Sarah, and I) met up with Greg, Jake, and Ben during this time and spent the night hanging out with them as well. As we made our way back to the ship, we had to stop in order to sober up a few of the girls. During this time, we happened to stumble upon an amazing Magician who decided to show us a few card tricks…not sure if he was really all that good or if it was the alcohol making him seem better….but we had fun.

We made it back to the ship and decided we would all sleep in the next day instead.
