Belgium: Day 4 (Brussels)

I’m sad to say that I was slightly disappointed with my trip to Brussels. While the city was beautiful, it was not easily accessible and while it was interesting to explore, there was not much to see it seemed. We were able to make our way to see the famous “Manneken Pis.” Legend states that in the 14th century, Brussels was under siege by a foreign power. The city had held its ground for some time, so the attackers conceived of a plan to place explosive charges at the city walls. A little boy named Julianske happened to be spying on them as they were preparing. He urinated on the burning fuse and thus saved the city.

In this area around the statue, we shopped for souvenirs and chocolate and ate famous Belgium Waffles. Shortly after, we decided to head back to Antwerp to prepare for our trip to Amsterdam.

Later that night, we went for a walk underneath the channel to the other side. From here we were able to take pictures of the ship with the church in the background and enjoy different scenery. Although, the underground tunnel was extremely old and sketchy…with wooden escalators and a long, concrete walkway.
