Belgium: Day 2 (Antwerp)

Today we woke up around 11am instead of heading out early because of our late night out in Antwerp last night. After an extended lunch on the ship, we headed out into the city for some shopping, sightseeing, and Belgian waffles. We all bought chocolate ones for only 2,50 Euros a piece and they were worth it! After shopping we headed to the train station to check prices for tickets from here to Paris tomorrow…holy shit! 210 Euros just for a one way ticket…definitely will not be doing that. Maybe a bus instead if I can figure out prices with Brit and Jenna will be a better option for here to Paris.

After this Jenna, Lauren T, and I headed to a chocolate store across the street where we met a very good looking chocolate/bakery chef. We then continued onto the zoo in Antwerp, the oldest in Europe, where we spent the next 3 ½ hours walking around and observing the animals. It was very relaxing and not at all busy inside. There were no vendors and overall a very quiet hassle-free/stress-free time.

We then started to make our way back to the ship and instead found a supermarket where we purchased snacks for the ship and an obscene amount of Belgian chocolate (Erika, Mom, and Mak- you guys are either going to love me for the chocolate or hate me because there’s so much of it). We then stopped at a little Greek restaurant. Here we ate Chicken Pitas with Belgian fries in them…they were amazing!

We then continued on and found a small tourist shop and a place known for Belgian fries with mayonnaise, which is supposed to be THE thing to eat in Belgium. Wasn’t that great if you ask me. Finally, we made it back to the ship where I will spend my night blogging, reading, and sleeping.

I cannot believe it’s only Tuesday night and we will be here until Saturday. I have kind of given up on the idea of going to Paris because it is so expensive and am not sure yet if I want to travel to Amsterdam. Guess we will just take it day by day and see how it plays out. I think tomorrow though we are going to do a concentration camp somewhere between here and Brussels. Hopefully that will be worth seeing.
