Portugal: Day 2 & 3

Not a lot happened these past 2 days in Portugal. Yesterday (Day 2 in Portugal), we made our way across the ocean inlet (where the Tagus River empties) and to the other side by ferry. We then continued our trip by bus 15km Southwest towards Costa de Caparica! The bus let us off ½ a mile out from the beach so we grabbed our bags and started walking toward the sound of the ocean. We ate at a little beach bar/café and enjoyed some refreshing drinks after our stressful trip. Finally, we made our way to the beach where we spent the next few hours tanning and wading in the ocean.

Around dinnertime we grabbed our bags and map and followed the directions to our campground we would be staying in. 1 ½ miles later we were hauling our stuff through a mobile home park in search of our trailer where we would be spending the night.

This morning (Day 3), we packed up our bags, checked out of our “bungalow,” and headed back to the beach for breakfast and a few more hours of sun before we headed back to the ship. This time, we took a bus all the way back and over the bridge to Lisbon where we were momentarily lost but found our way back out.

After these last 3 days spent in Portugal, I have found my new favorite port. However, the reason is not that I saw anything of significance or any great tourist locations. Instead, we left the city and ventured out to a small local area. We finally had time to relax after stopping in 6 countries in the past 3 weeks alone….(not that I am complaining about being part of possibly the best college study abroad experience there is.)

Class tomorrow and then whale watching field trip with my Marine Biology class on Sunday near Gibraltar!
